FAQs

How is Relationship Therapy Billed?

Relationship therapy is designed to improve the lives of all members with a focus on personal growth and well-being, not a mental health diagnosis. Common treatment goals facilitate fulfillment and change and may center on themes like healthy communication, sexual intimacy and desire, and evolving relationship structures.

This type of therapy is not considered “medically necessary” and is not covered by insurance. Sessions will be billed out-of-pocket. Please note that super bills for reimbursement are not available for this service.

I look forward to helping your relationship become healthier and happier!

How We'll Work Together - Starting Relationship Therapy with Lisa in Maryland.

When you first reach out to inquire about working with me I will likely want to arrange a phone call with each member of the relationship to ascertain issues of interest and consider past treatment or other mental health needs.

After the initial phone consultation, we will schedule three meetings including an intake session with all parties so that I can ask questions to learn more about your relationship history and treatment needs. Then, I will meet with each partner separately to obtain a brief personal history and perspective on the relationship.

We will all come together in the third session to review treatment goals and determine fit. Typically, I see clients on a weekly basis to start or a minimum of 3x per month with a suggested three-six month commitment.  As clients make progress, session frequency may decrease as indicated. Sessions are held via telehealth and both members of the relationship must be together in the same physical location.
